A Stage Manager's Blog – We Tell It Like It Is

September 28th – Wedding and Dance September 28, 2010

Not that bad of a rehearsal today!

We started working on the big wedding scene, and it went pretty smoothly.  Hopefully those pesky actors and actresses are writing down their blocking, otherwise Emily and I will have to start going after them!  It’s pretty clear that line memorization hasn’t quite gotten to the end of Act I yet, seeing as there were quite a few word stumbles and long pauses before speaking, but I have total faith that it will get there.  As long as everyone keeps reading for 30 minutes or so a night, it will be fine.  Between school, rehearsal, homework, and all those other things you guys are involved in, Emily and I know its tough, but practice practice practice.  We saw some great bits out there today, but also ones that needed some improvement.  Try reading in a different way, maybe you’ll find a beat that works much better. Never know.

Our wonderful dance captain Zara took time off from her weekend to choreograph the entire wedding dance, so kudos to her!  It was totally cute, and Emily and I enjoyed watching it immensely.  One thing….boys need to work on their coordination!!  C’mon guys, don’t let the girls show you up so much next time!  Slaps were everywhere when you did it with music. It was like watching the wave or something.  Better work on that. ;) Overall, a fab job for the first day.  I know it’ll look great once everyone gets it down.

Tomorrow we go over T-shirts!! It’s the big vote, so vote well. Also, Brian gets to look forward to his MONSTERlogue.  A page and a half of pure text.  Wish him luck everyone.

This is Day 1 of “A Stage Manager’s Blog.”  We tell it like it is.

Disclaimer:  Let’s get something straight right off the bat here.  This blog is for fun.  It’s meant to be lighthearted and funny.  At the same time, it won’t hold back if something or someone was just plain bad at rehearsal.  Alright?  After all, the motto IS “We tell it like it is.”  Emily and I are here to give you constructive criticism, to make this show as perfect as it can possibly be.  No, we won’t go after individual people for forgetting lines or screwing up a dance, but we will give reminders to things that need improvement.  If you don’t want to hear it, fine.  Just don’t read the blog. It’s simple. :)

~Michael

P.S. Let’s keep this on the DL for now.  No need to talk about it in front of LB.  Just to be safe.
